Ok ok too this is the last Uni picture: there are so many great ones to chose from. This one always makes me laugh. |

If you are in Glasgow from 12-14th of June then please come along and see this lady play! Venues not yet confirmed but I'm sure it's going to be a blast. Look up Uni and her Ukelele on myspace and watch her videos: they are hilarious. |

| | Uni and Her Ukelele-When will I see your face again | ] | "The work world sucks" as Canadian Sarah used to say. Then you find a place that you like and then it doesn't work out. I might just head off to Boston to see the brother for a week. Had my interview at the gallery and it was the most pleasant interview I've ever had. I just ended up telling Africa stories: hope I didn't bore her to death. I'm so excited about Uni coming to visit in June! And nervous! I just think she's so unbelievably entertaining and talented. The world needs to be aware of her. I'm thinking of venues for her. So random. |

| | Kraftwerk-Robots | ] | I've just been looking over some past entries, and my spelling is god-awful in places; words that I have no problem spelling most of the time...I do tend to write when I'm tired...that's the excuse. I went to a burlesque seminar on Sunday in the old music hall on Argyle street. What a a hidden treasure: full of 19th century memorabilia and ghosts apparently. Miss Kitty Klaw talked about some of the common misconceptions about burlesque. So it's not just about stripping, got that? It's about making a mockery of things...to `send up'. People would squeeze into the music hall and the air would be filled with smoke, sweat, and other rather unpleasant odours. Rotten vegetables were thrown, along with rivets and other scraps from the shipyards! Judith brought a sense of drama to the whole event, and told some ghost stories. We were given free champagne, coffee and buscuits and then we were treated to a fan-dance demonstration. Much to the horror of my male companions, we then had to get involved ourselves and the ladies distributed silk gloves to everyone. They split us into groups and we took off our gloves in a teasing manner, and threw a few burlesque poses. One of the male burlesque dancers tried to get Stuart to do something obscene on stage, to which he replied, "Dude, it's just not going to happen". Kitty is so friendly and absolutely tiny. She answered some of my questions. Gary knows her from his days of editing the Glasgow Vampire Magazine...I think she did some modelling for them. Went for a coffee in Mono afterwards and saw the lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, looking very YMCA in a leather cap. |

| | Shirley Bassy | ] | I have only now recovered from a rather unpleasant hangover; the worst I've had for years. It was worth it, and difficult to avoid. Last night I went to Trish's Bond party. After a depressing taxi journey with a driver that claimed, "The world is going down the tubes" I arrived in my silver Euro-sleeze boots and purdy-cut pink wig and fake eyelashes. It was a retro spy outfit and with those amazing boots I called myself, "Octopussy in boots". You like? I don't know how, but she managed to get some reall Russians there, a fake slut, and a real sailor in full uniform. I got on particularly well with the ballroom dancer though. |

| | The Gossip of coarse | ] | I wasn't sure that The Gossip were going to be all that fantastic. I had heard a few tracks and thought their style was cool but it's not stuff I'd listen to much. It was, however, one of the best gigs that I've been to for a while (and I've just seen The Long Blondes!). Even the support acts were interesting. The Violets were all over the place musically but the female lead singer was kind of interesting/amusing: like a tall thin version of Kelly Osborne, walking around the stage like she was wasted and looking a bit miserable. And then there was `Pre'. Four tall guys and then this tiny Asian female singer, wearing blue leggings and going absolutely berzerk on stage. And she had this squeaky voice when she spoke normally. There music was quite heavy and fast-paced and fantastic to watch. Beth comes on stage and tries to tease the crowd, saying that Manchester are always the best crowd. Although immediately not responsive, the Glasgow crowd soon rose to the challenge. Beth's voice is really quite powerful and soulful and it's difficult not to warm to her. She accidentally belched on stage, claiming that she had just had a Chinese buffet, then she took her girdle off in front of everyone. Oh and then she got down from the stage and started singing amongst us all. They eventually played `Standing in the Way of Control' and I can't remember the last time I saw a crowd enjoy a song so much. I suppose they are one of the bands of the moment, and that song is being played everywhere. They must be one of the best live bands at the moment. |

| | Long Blondes-Swallow Tattoo | ] | I woke up for my interview on Tuesday and felt great! The sun was streaming through my window and I rose from my bed feeling well rested. The interview was straight-forward and I was then free to travel through to Edinburgh and meet Stuart for the Long Blondes gig. I walked past the amazing hat shop and then popped into Armstrongs and picked up a good-quality pink wig; short and bobbed. It has a cool little fringe and I will flick out the ends. We went for a hot toddy in this really old Edinburgh pub with old currency notes stuck to the walls. The gig was strange; we weren't allowed to bring drinks down because it was over-14s (damm Hannah could have come!). The tallest guy in the room decided to stand in front of me! Kate was wearing these cool brown buttoned shorts and the band had their usual energy. Having picked up Dorian's towel and a signed poster from Kate at the last gig, I didn't expect to catch Screech's drum stick! I wish they would just hurry up and ask me to join the band.
Thursday was another casting day and it was hilarious. Murdo was almost seduced by one of the more beautiful actresses. On Saturday we filmed in Ayrshire and the Captain had crotchless trousers! Thank God he was wearing underwear and it was a comedy part. I was chased by a Highland cow but had a good chat with make-up artist Lisa while we waited around for the filming to finish. |

Last weekend I attended the Performance Art festival at Tramway with Stuart and Luea. We walked into the main room and saw some reeeal performance art. This guy stood on a hay-bale, put a gun into his mouth and squirted red paint all over himself. Then he smashed a lamp in my general direction. Upstairs there was an Indian guy with lovely long black hair and wearing a slinky black dress. He was shaving his legs in the middle of a room. There was video footage of himself cutting bits of hair off his beard. There was a curator of performance art giving a talk about various artists, including an Irish brother and sister that do a bizarre aggressive comedy routing. There was a woman that marked out squares on her legs with tape and made incisions with a scalpal in each square. He said that he thought art should be for everyone and then tried to sell his book to us. Stuart and I got some food and I ended up talking to an Irish performance artist. She said that this festival is the highlight of her year! I had no idea that it had been going on for 25 years. We nipped out to go to Andy's party and his new flat and had caviar on crackers. The final performance was more of a stand-up routine. The audience was equally amusing as we did Mexican waves and I witnessed the biggest group of fantastically strange-looking artists I had ever seen in one room. Performance art is an area that I don't know much about but I try to be open and learn about it. But it's so open to interpretation that I feel I need a bit more guidance to get the most out of it. |

Wow...(I sound like space-cadet Cassie in `Skins'). I should start with shooting the trailer a couple of weeks ago. There was a whole week of casting actors, and me running around trying to get costumes and random bits of material fom Mandors that I thought might be useful. The make-up girls were really helpful and we worked around a few tricky situations (like highlighted hair: not very traditionally Celtic). I finally got chatting with the staff in Starry Starry Night as I rumaged around the shop looking for military jackets. They are lovely and told me about costume hire places. The women working there also freelances on TV shoots (don't know exactly what she does) and worked on The View music video. She said it was a lot of fun. Then we went `on location' to Glen Lyon. I've never felt so car-sick in my life. One hair-pin bend too many and Murdo's driving didn't help. So I moved into another car and sang German songs with Tessa. There were two disasters. One disaster involved Matt falling over a cliff. Mountain rescue came out (after an hour: thank God he wasn't bleeding)while the make-up artist carried on like a true professional and got the actors ready for the rest of the shoot. Thankfully Matt only had a broken arm. The second disaster was that I lost my beloved blue beret. It's amazing how one can become so attached to a garment. If anyone sees a peacock blue beret for sale then let me know. Sadly I have no pictures of the dramatic events of that day. |

| | Lounge-Hipnotique | ] | Missed out on the Africa reunion, but had a good weekend in Glasgow. Hannah's brother's gig was cancelled so I was invited round for freshly made ginger tea and cupcakes. Delightful. Her kitchen is amazing; all very well designed and functional. Met up with Gary and we talked about the possibility of his script being made into a film. I'm also very curious to meet the regulars at the science-fiction convention in Glasgow. Stuart was locked out of his flat so we stayed up late and discussed ideas for The Tempest. I bought the most incredible pair of shoes in the sales: silver snake-skin high heels. Sooo Blue Rita/Long Blondes/Asia Argento. So pleased with them, and yet I left them in the supermarket and Stuart ran back to get them. The heels are quite ridiculous: the thought of actually managing to travel in them is a little far-fetched. I shall just have to lounge around in them. Ended up watching `Innocence'. So impressed that it was the director's first film. It's taken from a short-story and it first shows us a little girl arriving in a coffin at an all-girls school in the middle of a forest. The girls are not allowed to escape and there are high-walls to contain them. Two girls try to escape: one drowns but we don't know what happens to the other one. The older girls wander off into the forest at night, which is strangely lit by lamps. So much is left unexplained. Is this supposed to be the afterlife? Arriving in a coffin, the girls are dressed in white, they play happily in the idyllic forest. The director didn't want to use a soundtrack as it would manipulate our emotions too much. Instead, it is nature that provides the sounds: flowing river, birds etc. She also didn't like the idea that a soundtrack would date her film. The colours are fantastic: dark greens in contrast with the white uniforms of the girls and their brightly coloured ribbons.

| | Lamb | ] | It's always nice to get mail from Paris, especially writer is thoughtful and creative. Today I went for a really long walk along the beach in the morning and it was fantastic; it was all Turner-esque and misty. People were walking their new Christmas presents, that is puppy dogs. I tried to find a wireless spot in Borders so I could upload itunes software..alas it didn't work. Can't wait to get all my amazing music on this new ipod with so much storage space. Thanks to Ruari for trailing around Boston and picking up a bargain. Ed seemed pretty chilled out today and the time passed quickly as we watched Family Guy. I've finished my application form! I'm feeling a little nervy about the weekend; will have to break out of my little comfort zone and face some tricky situations. Anyway, it's great to see Ruari again: I wish he would stay longer. We saw Pan's Labyrinth in the rather too cosy DCA; I could smell the breath of the guy sitting next to me. I like the way it blended fantasy and stark reality so effortlessly, and it's so much darker than I imagined it would be.

You pimp yourself very well. Give us your top three self-promotion tips.
1. Don’t be afraid to email your idols. The arts are a bastion of low pay and crushing ego blows, so many of your favorite creators may love to hear from you.
2. Getting into the media isn’t a mystery. It’s a science- and there’s a whole section of Barnes and Noble devoted to it. Grab a frappucino and study those books in PR section.
3. Get a website. The internet is this generation’s Gutenberg. If you’re not online, you don’t exist.

This is how wonderful Namibia is! Those colours! Why did I leave? I finally saw my advisor of studies but it wasn't that helpful. At least I've made some contact with them. I sent off my form for the competition but I won't go into detail because I believe it's bad luck. I don't expect to hear back from them because I sent the form late and my ideas were sketchy. At least I sent it though-wasn't going to bother yesterday. I'm going to watch my Molly Shannon DVD. |

| | Techno Animal | ] | Got a Christmas card from Bermuda today-how thoughtful. I've not spoken to my New Zealand friend Alicia for ages...thought we had completely lost touch. I'm going to have to write to her and I think I should really visit her out there! I will never the forget the relief I felt when she walked into my room and introduced herself as my new room-mate in that accent. `Alicia' makes me think of some kind of sloany princess-rightly or wrongly. It looks like I will be getting some closure on the medicine soon-probably for the best.It feels like everyone is fizzing with speculation on what I will decide...although they probably aren't, and it's all in my head. The whole topic is starting to weigh me down. Everything feels like it's in tatters but I'm going to tackle each problem and start taking control. I'm going to start being more organised- it's about time. The first thing I will control is my hair-baby steps.
Dad called me a `natural healer' last night. It seems that I have a knack for giving massages. I got to work on Ed's hands and feet and he stopped thrashing around in the bed, much to the relief of the nurses. He actually started snoring-the wee soul. It's good to hear him sleeping soundly; hopefully he will be more awake for our visit this afternoon. |
